Classes offered at PAWS
Below is a brief description of the variety of performance art classes
offered at PAWS.
Jazz — Jazz is
a commercial style of dance, which incorporates technique and style.
Jazz is always a good class to start with if you are thinking of going into
dancing, as it involves learning all the basics, i.e. how to
turn, kick, isolations, stretch, jump, etc. This fun-filled class is
taught by young, fresh Jazz dance teachers who will teach you all the
latest moves to modern music. Jazz is available for all age groups at

Ballet —
Classical ballet is a specific technique that gives you a full
understanding of your body. At PAWS, we teach Royal Academy of Dancing
syllabus, which is the best known and best designed syllabus for ballet
that is recognised world wide. Our teachers are fully qualified and we
offer RAD exams to those students who attend 2 classes of ballet a week.
Exams start for students aged 6 and over, but we teach ballet from the
age of 2. Ballet is the most important style of dance to develop your

Tap —
Tap is a style of dance performed with special shoes that have metal
plates on the bottom, which makes noise when you dance. This is a fun
style that is also quite technical and challenging. We offer Glen Woods
tap syllabus and our teachers are fully qualified. We teach tap dancing
for students aged 5 and up. Enrol now!
Contemporary / modern —
Contemporary dance is a free style that is expressive and incorporates
techniques from jazz and ballet combined. PAWS is well known for its
contemporary work and has placed very well in competitions with our
contemporary troupes and solos. Contemporary is a great style that is
challenging and also a lot of fun. We teach contemporary dance for
students aged 5 and up.
Hip-Hop —
This is the latest dance craze performed to hip- hop music. It is a form
of dancing often seen on film clips, which incorporates break and all
the latest moves. We teach hip-hop dancing to students aged 5 and up.

Acrobatics —
Learn how to do cartwheels, hand stands, forward and backward rolls,
while building your strength and stretching skills. Once you have the
basics, you can move on to back flips, boranies, back saults, round of
flips, aerials, etc. Our teachers are fully qualified.

Musical
Theatre — On offer in 2008.
This class will teach you various musical styles, as well as how to sing

Circus arts
— We teach diablos, juggling, stilt
walking, uni cycling, trapeze and silks. This is a fun class allowing
you to explore the different areas of circus.

Special needs
— We offer a class for children with special
needs. With one student helper per child, each child gets the attention
needed to learn in a safe environment. Our teacher is fully qualified to
look after children with disabilities. The children do basic movement to
fun music, play games and learn the joy of dance.

Showgroups —
For those serious about dancing, PAWS has performance teams available
for every age group. This class is by audition only ... this does not
mean you have to be a great dancer straight away, but you do have to
prove to us that you are willing to work hard. To be eligible, students
must attend 2 Ballet classes, Jazz classes, Acrobatics classes and Showgroup classes. PAWS
Showgroups are becoming very successful on the
competition circuit and have made quite a name for themselves. For more

Private lessons —
Private lessons are available for dedicated students who would like to enter
competitions. These can be with any teacher, subject to availability and usually
go for half an hour or an hour. Our private lesson students have been very
